ENSEMBLE

Gianni Tonin had more than just a encyclopedic knowledge of classic furniture when he founded Tonin Casa in 1975. He had a vision of an ensemble of highly imaginative designers, each approaching the question of interior decor from a radically different observation point. As his fledgling company grew and thrived, more exciting minds were attracted to the project: painters, architects, theatrical designers, engineers, and even fashion designers all drawn from the great capitals of Europe. In common, was their passion for shaping carefully selected materials into elegant furnishings, hand-made in Italy. By the mid-nineties, inspired by the loyalty of their customers, these innovative artisans began to produce truly one-of-a-kind pieces offering new collections every year like a haut couture fashion house. By this time, their reputation was defined by bold contemporary offerings. Together they pioneered a concept of integrated collections that combine and re-align to bring harmony and distinctiveness to the modern living space- an approach which is now often imitated in the mass market. The unifying philosophy behind all this creative energy remains a love for wellness, comfort, life balance and the human form. Tonin Casa’s headquarters in Alta Padovana embodies this ethos in its essence, bringing the entire life-cycle of the product under one roof. Pieces emerge from the minds and hearts of brilliant designers, pass through the hands of journeyed craftsman, to the gallery and onto the showroom, never losing touch with the personal, intimate experience of the customer.

INTENSITY

The diverse nature of the inspirations behind Tonin Casa’s collections naturally create a broad spectrum of contemporary design possibilities. Each new assemblage is defined by a cohesion of language and shape. Principal designer, Nicola Tonin’s tables, like the FIRENZE and the COLOSSEO, are balanced planes made of tempered glass or Canaletto Walnut, poised on circular pedestals that hint at Roman architectural influences. Whereas the low tables of contributing designer Daniel Rodes are cantilevered post-modern masterpieces that seem almost dreamlike, hovering in negative space. Yet somehow, these pieces combine effortlessly in a picture perfect living space. The underlying narrative behind all of these creations is an intense commitment to innovative choices. There are no half-attempts or almost perfects in these collections. Each is a boldly drawn concept, executed with the finest quality materials both precious and elegant.

CONSCIENCE

Among the many distinctions and appellations acquired by the design team of Tonin Casa, none is more important than “Made in Italy.” It is the pride and defining spirit of the company. Unlike many manufacturers, every available component of their furnishings carry the “Made in Italy” label. Classic and grain leather drawn from only European bovine means adherence to the strictest humane and environmental standards. Simple details like the highly precise cutting techniques employed by the expert leather workers at their facilities are calculated to minimize waste for the least impact on the environment. The very wood within these unique pieces echoes this enduring commitment. Precious Italian Walnut, Italian Oak from the Alpine foothills, highly sought after Ash from Southern Italy, are all renewable resources of such value that only the most accomplished artisans are allowed to touch them. It is a level of conscience and craftsmanship only possible where every aspect of production and distribution is within arms reach of the design team and owners. This forward thinking approach to manufacturing extends even to the ingenious recyclable packaging techniques developed by the company to safely and easily transport their treasured products around the world. The belief at Tonin Casa is that “each single piece owns a soul: the soul of those who choose it for their own home.”

DISTINCTION

Having achieved a rare distinctiveness in design, it is no wonder that the pieces created at Tonin Casa are the darlings of interior design festivals. The individual artists in the ensemble have been awarded dozens of prizes, and the company itself maintains a major presence at Salone del Mobile. Milano working as a tireless advocate for the art of interior design.
